Growing up in West Oakland provided Guapdad 4000 (born Akeem Hayes) with a vast treasure chest of invaluable inspiration, encouraging him early on in life to explore his innate talents as a multihyphenate creative and eager student of the game. Guapdad&#39;s profound sense of humor, paired with his aptitude for commanding attention, translated organically into his lighthearted freestyles and ignited his interest in developing his well-rounded capacities as a vocalist.
 
While navigating an upbringing challenged by his both of parents being in and out of jail at oft overlapping time frames, Guapdad 4000 began operating out of a necessity to both survive and take care of his siblings and grandmother. Driven by his greater desire to rise above such calamitous circumstances, he turned to illicit means to make money, such as credit card fraud and petty theft, a path accented by ups and downs that later provided ample material for his original content.
  
Guapdad called on his fans to choose the name for his debut, resulting in the selected title Dior Deposits. While his brand is grounded in individuality, the album doubles as a reflection of that, speaking to putting work in and investing in what it takes to be successful against all odds.

Smooth, charismatic rapper Guapdad 4000 rose from the Bay Area in the late 2010s with his humorous style and a steady flow similar to forebears like <a href="spotify:artist:1wiBLzTI7z9RUwEpNPdFT6">Mase</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0YWxKQj2Go9CGHCp77UOyy">Fabolous</a>. After a breakthrough appearance on the 2019 <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Dreamville%22">Dreamville</a> compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III, he issued his official debut full-length, Dior Deposits.

Born Akeem Hayes, the West Oakland native grew up idolizing emcees such as <a href="spotify:artist:3s8alQfNnY0roAHaJh7Xxt">Dom Kennedy</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4sv6VJ2QZlaSosz3kFlxQH">Mac Dre</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2RdwBSPQiwcmiDo9kixcl8">Pharrell Williams</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:5K4W6rqBFWDnAN6FQUkS6x">Kanye West</a>. Comparing himself to <a href="spotify:artist:2RdwBSPQiwcmiDo9kixcl8">Williams</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5K4W6rqBFWDnAN6FQUkS6x">West</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:73sIBHcqh3Z3NyqHKZ7FOL">Childish Gambino</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:4V8LLVI7PbaPR0K2TGSxFF">Tyler, the Creator</a>, he fashioned himself as a creative hip-hop outlier, matching his outsized personality with tight rhymes, clever wordplay, and punchline-packed lyrics. Guapdad 4000 released his first mixtape, Scamboy Color, in late 2017, recruiting Bay Area staple <a href="spotify:artist:2ZavqCJe7uqkRpISes0NFi">IAMSU</a> on production duties. As his name spread through hip-hop circles, he attracted famous fans like <a href="spotify:artist:3TVXtAsR1Inumwj472S9r4">Drake</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6l3HvQ5sa6mXTsMTB19rO5">J. Cole</a>. After a chance meeting with the latter, he was invited to appear on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Dreamville%22">Dreamville</a>'s 2019 chart-topping compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III, contributing to "Don't Hit Me Right Now," "Costa Rica," and "Wells Fargo." 

In the following months, Guapdad 4000 began the slow rollout for his official debut, issuing the singles "First Things First" with <a href="spotify:artist:02kJSzxNuaWGqwubyUba0Z">G-Eazy</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:08v1r0jqDyvSo2LtSqHxcy">Reo Cragun</a>, "Prada Process" with <a href="spotify:artist:4IVAbR2w4JJNJDDRFP3E83">6LACK</a>, and "Gucci Pajamas" with <a href="spotify:artist:1anyVhU62p31KFi8MEzkbf">Chance the Rapper</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6CxZzQFUTM6AzgluGwtq5w">Charlie Wilson</a>. Those tracks landed on Dior Deposits, which was released that October. Additional guests included <a href="spotify:artist:2jku7tDXc6XoB6MO2hFuqg">Tory Lanez</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6fxyWrfmjcbj5d12gXeiNV">Denzel Curry</a>, and fellow Californians <a href="spotify:artist:3crnzLy8R4lVwaigKEOz7V">E-40</a>, Nef the Pharaoh, and <a href="spotify:artist:4AA474G2hRfrHyGrfyDseO">Mozzy</a>.

The following year, Guapdad 4000 issued a pair of EPs -- Platinum Falcon Tape, Vol. 1 and Platinum Falcon Returns -- which featured <a href="spotify:artist:6fxyWrfmjcbj5d12gXeiNV">Denzel Curry</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5usbqiU7sjvszjWecANDL6">Westside Boogie</a>, and more. A flood of collaborative singles carried him into 2021, when he released the joint LP 1176 with producer <a href="spotify:artist:0bw7sLDsNQTScMpmsNFukJ">!llmind</a>.
